Scissor Oil for Dog Grooming (Shear Oil)

Your scissors or shears that you use for dog grooming are important. You want them to stay the proper degree of sharpness, so they can do their job effectively without accidentally hurting you or the dog.

Part of caring for grooming shears and scissors involves regularly applying oil. This scissor oil or shear oil does just that. It is very easy to use and is effective on a range of grooming shears.

Easy to Dispense

The bottle for this shear oil makes it very easy to apply. As anyone who has cared for grooming shears before knows, you just need a few drops to get the job done. This bottle was specifically designed to only let out a few drops at a time, so your precious scissor oil doesn’t go to waste.

A Little Lasts a Long Time

Because you only apply a very small amount of the scissor oil each time you lubricate your shears, a little goes a long way. That means that even this seemingly small bottle will last for a surprisingly long time.

How to Use the Scissor Oil

As mentioned, the bottle that this shear oil comes in makes it very easy to apply in the proper amount. You should get in the habit of applying the oil every time you clean and dry the scissors. Remember that you ideally want to clean the scissors after every use anyway.

Open up the scissors so the blades create a 90-degree angle. Then, place one or two drops right into the joint area of the blades. Open and close your blades a few times. This will let the oil work into the blades of the scissors. Afterward, wipe the blades clean.

This will protect the system with the tension screw. It will also flush out any debris you may have missed while cleaning.

How to Clean the Scissors Before Applying Oil

You don’t have to be intimidated by the idea of cleaning your grooming shears after each use. Just use a fine, soft brush to remove excess hair. Then, use a cleaning solution specifically designed to clean grooming shears. Don’t forget to dry the shears thoroughly after, especially where the blades connect.

The Benefits of Using Scissor Oil

You may feel tempted to skip applying oil to your grooming shears, but this is a mistake. Without lubricating the scissors regularly, they will not have the proper tension. This can make it harder to use your shears. That could lead to potential injuries, such as cuts (to you or the dog) or an increase in hand and wrist fatigue.

Even more importantly, shear oil protects your grooming scissors. It will prevent moisture, chemicals, and bacteria from building up on top of the blades. It will also prevent the metal blades from rusting. It can even prevent debris from grooming dogs from building up on the blades, especially in the pivot section. By preventing this, the oil ensures the scissors continue to have minimum friction and maximum blade mobility.

Love this scissor oil! It’s hard to find scissor oil anywhere else, & it’s a must to properly take care of your scissors!

This changes the game completely! I have been using this daily after sharpening my shears 4 months ago. This oil keeps them friction free and still working like they were sharpened yesterday! You can see the hair it clears out of the joint, keeping my shears in tip top shape. This will prolong the time between sharpenings by keeping them sharp longer. It does leave a little bit of white crust when it dries, but it’s easily brushed or wiped off and doesn’t affect anything. Can’t do without it. Hard to find anywhere else. A MUST HAVE!
